FUGITIVE POET MUSIC PRESENTS: SIGN GUESTBOOK
Barra from Daytona Beach 1970's
October 8, 2008
Hey Muddy Harp!
Glad you made the break from Daytona!
That town is really hard on anyone tryin' to make a living!
I move away in 1985 but would still return every now and then to visit family and friends and occasionally tell them "I need a Hodgson fix"! So we would all get together and go catch a few sets at the Boothill, or where ever you might be.
You are too talented for Daytona that is for sure! I wish you all the best luck making it big... the world of blues needs your crazy spirited singing.
I hope you play Daytona or Jacksonville some day soon. I was trying to put together a road trip for a "Hodgson Fix" in Daytona with some friends up here & that is how I googled you..dang the luck..you are too far for a road trip! :)
If you can add me to your fan list that would be great!
I believe me and my family may be some of your oldest fans!
Maybe you should write a song about needing a Hodgson fix....it's that inward craving for the blues...not just anyones blues.. but the soul stiring, concious dividing, heart wrenching blues! the kind that lingers for days in you soul! Yes that would be you!
I loaded you to my myspace account http://www.myspace.com/barbaralyons
Take care and blessings to your family!
Warmest Wishes,
Barra

Hey, Mark,
Good to see you're returning to DBCC, if it's still called that, and to be able to hear and watch some of your gigs on the net. I really, really like the band shell numbers on youtube, and who could argue w/ the Walker plantations? I take it they were by Miles?
All good things,

Mark: It was great to meet you last night at Fresh. I have time to spend checking out your site since Rick and Linda have the Iguanas crankin'; which means in Rico-nese, "we won't be available to entertain you for quite some time." I may get out of here in an hour, or so. As long as I don't hear James Brown on the stereo. Anyway, I enjoyed your set and am intrigued by the idea you were discussing with Rick. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
Respectfully, Marcus

Well,well...howdy neighbor! I had heard from my mom and dad and sister (my dad, Ed, worked for your Dad at FPE) that you were "into music" back in Daytona, but didn't know you had done so well! I still remember you as the guy that lived 3 doors down the street on Mark Avenue that would chase the mosquito fogger machine in the middle of the night!!! Looks like I'm going to have to check out your music and see what all the fuss is about! Would love to chat a bit - get caught up on many years - wondering how your family is...I always thought the world of your mom. I moved back to Detroit area in 1971 and been here since!
Take care,
Peggy Cleary

The musical instrument called the harmonica may have been invented in Trossingen Germany, but the true utilization of the cross harp was invented by Mark Hodgson. Hodgson doesn't play blues harp he IS blues harp. I first became mezmerized with the Hodgson sound at the Boot Hill Saloon in Daytona Beach in 1991 when I was a photography student at DBCC. Later when I asked him during a break about what harp he used he actually GAVE me one, a Hohner Golden Melody. Now 1n 2007 I am on my ninth harp. Once in 1993 I loaned him one during a quiet moment during the Miss Boot Hill Contest which he MC'd. Later I managed to help the band get a gig at the Gainesville Blues Festival. I drove 130 miles to the House of Blues, during a week night, just to hear his music during a James Cotten show. Mark Hodgson bends the cross harp as good as it ever gets by any one any where. You will never be disappointed if you get the chance to hear him in person. I hope I can drive down from Atlanta to Daytona Beach Community College for the show in February. It will be worth the 440 mile drive! Keep up the good work Mark. Embouchure!

Hello friend. It's bee a long time. I was just watching POG Tv and saw you teaching a class. I'm glad to see you sharing all the Blues information with the next generation. I have an 8 year old daughter now and she just got a harmonica for her birthday. We watched you play and I told her about the old days when Dolph, my dad and I would come up to the little beachside Ormond bar (I can't even remember the name my memory is so bad) and watch you and your band jam. I miss those days. Do you have any live shows coming up in the near future? I see you have one coming at Biketoberfest, but I was hoping you might have a smaller show coming that I might be able to say hi between sets? Keep up the blues, nobody does it like you!

Mark, I undserstand that you are performing at the port orange library on June 22nd. Do you remember jumping up on the stage and telling me that you had to get up there and join us because we were rocking the armory with that gospel song? Well mark am 72 years young and you told me that you would do some gsopel songs with me. I sure wish that you would keep thast promise.
my phone number is 386-788-2144, and my e-mail address is arzy1934@yahoo.com. I am The African american that you joined on stage at the armory in Deland for a fundraiser for Noble Thin Man's niece. Thanks

I own a restaurant on the intracoastal waterway with a large outdoor venu in Flagler Beach. Because we have a generous outdoor setting, I am bringing in more live music to entertain guests. I received your name and cell number from Ruben "The Lounge Lizard" Morgan and I am interested in speaking with you to possibly book dates with the earliest available date being 19 & 20 May, our grand opening. I am currently in Maryland but will return to Flagler Beach on 11 May.
